Called to the Ontario bar in 1986, Phil has practiced law in Ottawa for more than 30 years. A founding partner of the firm, Phil now shares his time between the firm’s Ottawa office and Halifax as senior counsel. He has made the representation of employees and trade unions the primary focus of his career. This work has given him a considerable depth of experience in fields as diverse as aviation, finance, manufacturing, electrical construction and distribution, and many facets of the federal public service.
Phil has made it his practice to provide sound and thoughtful advice at all times, whether developing and leading negotiation strategies, or appearing in court, before administrative decision makers, or in mediation proceedings.
Phil represents clients in proceedings before arbitrators, labour relations boards, human rights tribunals, and courts at all levels. He has substantial experience in advancing employee dismissal and disability insurance claims. He regularly appears on Judicial Review applications, both before the Ontario Courts and in the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal.
Phil is frequently invited as a speaker at Association and professional conferences, and has served as a part time lecturer at the University of Ottawa law school.
Away from the office, Phil is an avid sailor and cyclist.
