Daria is a partner with the law firm of Shields Hunt Duff Strachan. She has a wide range of advocacy experience at trial and appellate levels of the provincial and federal courts in both civil and commercial litigation, as well as representing clients at various administrative tribunals. Her practice has included high-profile cases in employment and labour, human rights, national security, corporate restructurings, and administrative law, as well as advocating for clients in emerging areas of law such as medical cannabis. She is dedicated to helping her clients fight constructive, wrongful and unjust dismissals, conduct workplace investigations, protect sensitive information and intellectual property, and settle complex matters before they reach the courtroom. Fluently bilingual, Daria is able to represent her clients in both English and French, and has done so in federal court, provincial court, and before various administrative tribunals.
In addition to her law practice, Daria enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience with the next generation of advocates as an Adjunct Professor in Civil Procedure at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law (Common Law), as a participant in the moot court program, and as an articling principal. She is an in-demand speaker at legal conferences on issues such as workplace discrimination and the duty to accommodate. As an Adjudicator for the Canadian Internet Registration Authority’s on-line dispute resolution service, Resolution Canada, she assists in the fair and efficient resolution of complex claims regarding domain names. She also volunteers as legal counsel with REACH and as Amicus and Duty Counsel with the Pro Bono Ontario program at the Ottawa Courthouse, assisting disabled, low-income and self-represented litigants in navigating the complexities of our legal system.
Daria’s career has included practicing at a major, full-service law firm in Toronto, an Ottawa-based full-service firm, and at the Department of Justice Canada. She is committed to providing the highest quality of service to her clients and is successful at resolving disputes efficiently and effectively.
Daria was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001 and has degrees in both Common Law (Queen’s University) and Civil Law (l’Université de Sherbrooke).
Outside of the office, Daria is an avid marathon runner who also enjoys surfing, snowboarding, acting, and travelling the world with her husband and their two children.
